We're so excited! Center Brook has been given an 1800s barn! We plan to disassemble it in summer 2025 and reassemble it behind Center Brook. Our Civil War cannons and antique wagons will finally have a proper home. The heavy timber frame of the barn will be reused; we will reside the barn with new pine and paint it to match Center Brook. The 20x27 barn is local, so it will be an easy project to complete. If you're interested in giving history a hand, please email us!
We received a call in 2022. There was a local gentleman who was a civil war collector & reenactor and ran a small museum on his property. Over the years he had built an impressive collection of reproduction civil war uniforms, firearms, artillery and camp equipment. He also had some genuine firearms used in the Civil War by both the Federal and Confederate troops. He had a large collection of books, maps and displays. This man was looking for a home for his collection, a home which would keep it intact and not split or sell it off. A home that would be open to the public and would continue his mission of sharing history.
Knowing that we were not “turnkey” to house this collection, he still made the decision to allow us to be the next caretakers of his possessions.
It took a year, but the Center Brook Historical Society is now a 501c3 tax-exempt organization registered with the IRS. It is our hope to begin work on a building very soon to house the George & Shirley Beck Civil War Collection.
Once the building is up, we will begin immediately opening it up to the public and sharing this treasure of historical artifacts.
If you would like to be a part of this side of our mission, please reach out to us! We need the help to bring this local history center to reality.
